Among the proposals in the Sauvé report published on 8 July is the abolition of the Court of Justice of the Republic, in the name of the principle of equality before the law. Having politicians judge politicians is an idea that goes back to the French Constituents and is based on the separation of powers, recalls Me François Martineau. Having practiced at the court during the Balladur affair, he explains to us the raison d’être and the functioning of this institution which does not necessarily deserve to disappear.

INTIME CONNEXION

François MARTINEAU’s new cartoon collection, Intime Connexion, published by Editions LexisNexis

Algorithms and blues could well summarize the judiciary, which is being forcibly modernized, digitized and robotized, prompting nostalgia and some irritation amongst those who miss the good old days.

Will they survive, those endless hearings where you couldn’t help but admire the judges’ patience, where the lawyer let his mind wander as he waited for his turn…

Will our augmented intelligence be able to process the figurative expressions that it will take literally, the colourful legal language and flights of fancy?

To capture them while we still can, here are some more, recorded in drawings, a few quick sketches, a little watercolour, in short, lawyers and judges affectionately caricatured… After Brèves de barre comes Intime connexion
